St Davids is the smallest city in Britain and almost entirely visitor-driven. Cathedral and Bishop's Palace visitors feeding a compact centre of galleries, cafés, outdoor businesses and a very high density of self-catering accommodation, plus campsites and glamping across the peninsula.
Remote and off-grid accommodation is the distinctive problem here. Properties on bottled gas, with wood burners, sometimes without a mains connection, and often a long way from the nearest fire station. That distance belongs in the assessment. Where a response could realistically be twenty minutes or more, detection and escape have to carry more of the load, and guest information stops being a formality.
We are 40 minutes away, so there is no travel charge and no waiting a fortnight for a slot.
Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 the responsible person for any non-domestic premises must carry out a fire risk assessment. Since 1 October 2023 it must be recorded in full, with the fire safety arrangements, regardless of how many people you employ. Enforcement in St Davids sits with Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service.
